BETHLEHEM BIRTH PLACE OF JESUS
According to the Gospels (Matthew 2; Luke 2), Bethlehem was the site of the Nativity of Jesus Christ. Christian theology has linked this with the belief that his birth there fulfills the Old Testament prophecy of Israel’s future ruler coming from Bethlehem (Micah 5:2).
NAZARETH ANNUNCIATION CHURCH
It was established over what Catholic tradition holds to be the site of the house of the Virgin Mary, and where the angel Gabriel appeared to her and announced that she would conceive and bear the Son of God, Jesus – an event known as the Annunciation.
CAPERNAUM TOWN OF JESUS
In Biblical times Capernaum was one of the main trading villages in the Gennesaret area. It was a vibrant and prosperous part of Palestine, home to about 1,500 people many of whom were fishermen. Many travelers, caravans, and traders passed through Capernaum on the Via Maris.
HOUSE OF PETER
Although slightly larger than most, the house of Saint Peter was simple, with coarse walls and a roof of earth and straw. Like most early Roman-period houses, it consisted of a few small rooms clustered around two open courtyards.
SEA OF GALILEE
The Sea of Galilee is an attraction for Christian pilgrims who visit Israel to see the places where Jesus performed miracles according to the New Testament, such as his walking on water, calming the storm and feeding the multitude.
TOMB OF JESUS
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it
WAILING WALL
The wall is believed by devout Jews to be the Western Wall of the Second Temple of Jerusalem destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE, the only surviving structure of the Herodian Temple built during the realm of Herod Agrippa
TOMB OF KING DAVID
David’s Tomb is a site that, according to Christians, is associated with the burial of the biblical King David. This site is considered to be the actual resting place of King David
LAST SUPPER ROOM
Located on an upper floor of King David’s Tomb, the Room of the Last Supper, also called the Cenacle, is considered one of the holiest sites for Christianity in Jerusalem, since according to the tradition, it was the place where the last supper took place.
GETHSEMANE
Gethsemane is a garden at the foot of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem where, according to the four Gospels of the New Testament, Jesus underwent the agony in the garden and was arrested before his crucifixion. It is a place of great resonance in Christianity
MOUNT OF OLIVES
The Mount of Olives, so named for the olive groves that once dotted its slopes, is East Jerusalem’s most prominent point, towering over 800 meters above sea level. This holy site is associated with Islam, Judaism and Christianity, and has been used as a place of prayer and burial since the days of the First Temple.
CITY OF KING DAVID
The story of the City of David began over 3,000 years ago, when King David left the city of Hebron for a small hilltop city known as Jerusalem, establishing it as the unified capital of the tribes of Israel.
MOUNT CARMEL
Sanctified since early times, Mt. Carmel is mentioned as a “holy mountain” in Egyptian records of the 16th century bc. As a “high place,” it was long a Centre of idol worship, and its outstanding reference in the Bible is as the scene of Elijah’s confrontation with the false prophets of Baal (I Kings 18).
ARMAGEDDON
Looming over a strategic spot on Israel’s northern coastal plain, the ancient city of Megiddo was often a battleground, befitting its biblical name Armageddon. But in two Bronze Age tombs, archaeologists are finding signs that, nearly 3500 years ago, Megiddo was also a surprisingly cosmopolitan place.
MOUNT TABOR ISRAEL
In the Hebrew Bible (Joshua, Judges), Mount Tabor is the site of the Battle of Mount Tabor between the Israelite army under the leadership of Barak and the army of the Canaanite king of Hazor, Jabin, commanded by Sisera. In Christian tradition, Mount Tabor is the site of the transfiguration of Jesus
